HELLO

My name is Sarah. I am a Registered Nurse Psychotherapist specialized in treating Women's Mental Health through CBT.

I am constantly inspired by women like you, who manage households, careers, friendships and more.

Your needs matter too.

The menopause transition is hard but you don't have to do it alone.

how can cognitive behavioural therapy help me?

During perimenopause we experience physical and emotional changes which interfere with our daily lives.

CBT explores the behaviors and thoughts that contribute to these changes while providing tools to reduce stress, improve sleep and build emotional strength.

It has proven effective in helping women manage their menopause symptoms through various clinical trails; and remains the most recommended non-pharmaceutical treatment.

if you cannot find the answer to your question.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) has been demonstrated to be an effective clinical treatment for anxiety, depression, and behavioral disorders. In the field of women's mental health it has been demonstrated to help women improve their symptom management, self efficacy, and assertive communication skills. CBT is a goal focused, strength based approach which works with the client to build coping skills and alter unhelpful beliefs in everyday experiences. CBT has been shown to be effective in treating perimenopausal concerns including, but not limited to: depression, mood swings, and managing hot flashes.

No treatment, physical or cognitive is ever guaranteed. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) has been proven to be a long lasting beneficial treatment for most people experiencing a range of cognitive concerns including: depression, anxiety, and mood disorders. It has been researched in thousands of peer review, and systematic articles since the 1970's when it first became wide spread. In some studies CBT has demonstrated similar effectiveness to anti-depressant medications, with longer lasting effects. However, the benefits of CBT are case specific and depend on a range of factors including client willingness to participate in joint action planning, as well as factors outside of the client's control such as genetic pre-disposition.

The short answer is: it depends. Although Registered Nurses in the province of Ontario are able to provide psychotherapy under the  Regulated Health Professions Act  not all insurance companies and plans recognize Registered Nurse Psychotherapists. I recommend you discuss your insurance policy directly with your insurance company prior to beginning treatment.
